Good report

3/14/08 12:00 pm
At this time Granny, Papa and Susie (Phil's wife) are driving home from Memphis after the appt at the Burn Center. The D0ctor is so pleased with Granny's progress that she & Susie will change the dressings next Tuesday so the next appt is next Friday. The doctor will not prescribe any narcotic pain medication for pain or give Granny medication prior to the treatment. Apparently, he has never been burned or thinks it is not painful!
Thank God for Dr. Sheraton in Piggott who has stepped in and assisted with prescribing the needed pain medication.
Granny and Papa are adapting to living in Phil's apartment.
Papa has new jeans and Granny's cousin Mary Beth Olds has
hemmed them. The church, friends & community continue to be very supportive.
Thank you to all who are helping in many way Also thank you t0 those of you who are checking the blog and praying for them.

Pictures of the house

Several people have been asking to see pictures of the farmhouse, so here they are. It helps those of us who can't make the trip to St. Francis right now feel more connected, knowing how bad the damage was, but I have to warn you the pictures can be a bit overwhelming.

Tuesday's belated news

On Tuesday March 11, Granny returned for a visit to the Medical Center in Memphis. Papa drove there without a problem, and his sister Marietta came with them. A BIG THANKS to her for always being there for anyone in need.

Doctor King, plastic surgeon was pleased with Granny's progress & complimented her on how well she was keeping the burns cleaned of extra tissue. She is still taking prescription pain pills but the pain is getting better each day. The next visit will be Tuesday, March 18.

Thank-you all so much for checking on their progress and helping in tons of ways. Please continue to lift them up to Jesus for I believe without a doubt that he is in control.

If you would like to make a comment or send a note to Granny or Papa, you can leave a comment on this blog and they will get the message.

Fire Update

Granny has more burns than we had hoped. We have estimated she has 20% of her body in first and second degree burns. The burns on her right arm cannot be seen due to the dressing which was changed today. We continue to give all the glory for their rescue to God who directed their escape just in time. The intense heat could be felt at the end of the drive which is 535 feet long.

We have good news to report. Papa can now recognize everyone because he is sporting a new pair of glasses which were speed delivered from Springfield to Piggott via Amanda, his granddaughter. Not even FedEx could have beaten her delivery time. Papa was also able to get key to their Dodge Caliber which was saved by the St Francis Fire Department who did an awesome job on a rainy cold night.

The church and community have leaped to help in many ways. Thank you to all of you for your help, prayer, food and support.

A special fund is available at Jones's Furniture Store in Piggott. You may call them at 870-598-2861 or stop by to give a donation. Another suggestion would be a gift card like to Walmart or any other store.

Hopefully, after Granny's appointment today we will know more on the severity of her burns and the continued recovery process.

Quick summary

Sometime in the night of Monday March 3, or the early hours of Tuesday March 4th the Granny-O and Poppa's house caught on fire. Thankfully they were awakened by both the smoke detectors and man's best friend, Poppa's labrador. They both made it out of the house safely, although Granny-O did receive some burns to her hand(s) and face. Unfortunately because of the distance to the nearest fire station, the house appears to be a complete loss. They were able to get the car out of the carport in time to save it, however the pickup has been destroyed as well.

Granny-O was taken to the Piggott hospital for an initial evaluation of her burns, and to treat her for any smoke inhalation. She was transferred to the burn unit in Memphis around 4am Tuesday morning. Late Tuesday afternoon she was ready to be released, aside from a check with an ophthalmologist. Once that turned up OK she was released from Memphis and returned to Piggott to get some rest. She has to return to Memphis on Friday to have her dressings/bandages changed.

For the time being, Granny-O & Poppa are staying in an apartment that Phil/Susie own in Piggott. Any cards or other well wishes can be directed through the vet clinic:

Crowley's Ridge Vet Clinic
176 N Front Ave
Piggott, Arkansas 72454

Any comments left on this (or any other) post will be taken to Granny-O & Poppa each day or so. Hopefully that covers most of the details, but if you have questions please leave them in the comments as well.

Hello to all

Just testing to see if I am doing the right "blog"thing

Keeping in touch, without overwhelming

We've created this blog to keep people up to date on how Opal & CC Daffron are doing after their house fire a few nights ago. Our hope is to do so without overwhelming them with phone calls and other well meaning contact, until they get back on their feet.
